About The Site
There are a number of sports websites on the web that talk about baseball, and most are aimed at specific teams. But curiously enough, there are almost none that are dedicated to an entire division and all its members.
With a focus on discussing the hottest topics in the American League’s Western division, the AL West Blog is focused on providing game wrap-ups, previews, scores and analysis, stats, trending topics and general goings-on to our readers.
The AL West Blog was started in mid 2011 by a baseball fan and journalism major at San Jose State University, in connection with the AL East Blog founded by two baseball fans and sport management students at the University of Massachusetts students.
Meet Our Writer:
DANIEL is a native Californian born to two native Californians, who has had an interest in sports since the age of eight.
He dabbles in almost every sport, having written on track, basketball, football, rugby, wrestling, water polo, swimming, and others at the University of Massachusetts Daily Collegian (fall 2009) and, more recently, at San Jose State University’s Spartan Daily (staff writer, spring 2010; sports editor, fall 2010; senior staff, spring 2011; copy editor, fall 2010). He is a magazine journalism major at SJSU, with two prospective minors (economics and humanities), and looks to graduate in the spring of 2012. He has been an intern at the sports department of the Sacramento Bee and at CBS Sports 1140 KHTK in Sacramento.
Originally an Atlanta Braves fan (because every game was broadcast on TBS until recently), he has become accustomed to his teams not reaching expectations (Braves vs. Yankees, A’s always; also, Oakland Raiders, Sacramento Kings, San Jose Sharks and Cal football). He throws this losing-orientation out the window (except for his penchant to hope for the rags-to-riches, come-from-behind, David-over-Goliath sports stories) in lieu of the most balanced journalism possible.
Meet Our Founder:
MIKE is a transplant Yankee fan originally born outside of Boston but grew up in northern Vermont. He is a junior sport management and journalism student at UMass Amherst an an aspiring sportswriter/broadcaster. He has loved sports from a young age and is continually amazed by them and the effects they can have on people. He loves to talk about and debate all topics from the disappearance of foul territory to the pitching rotation for the week’s fantasy matchup.
Michael was born in Boston but grew up in Vermont, and it is entirely his father’s fault for the Yankees association in MLB but Boston teams in nearly all other sports (except for the Pats.. never!). But he certainly is not thinking about switching sides now or ever.
